Trail description

Mountain Bike detail

The Osprey MTB trail (download map) is the latest addition to the family of Kielder trails. It starts at Kielder Castle and heads up the Forest Drive to the first of several sections of sweeping singletrack as it turns along Kielder Burn and climbs into the forest. The trail links back onto the Lakeside Way on forest road or for the more adventurous via a new bridge over Plashetts Burn at Wainhope. This section is an exhilerating run down singletrack with breathtaking views to the Lakeside Way.

As with all trails in Kielder, please be fully prepared for riding in remote environments and come properly equipped. The weather can change rapidly and small equipment failures can quickly turn into a more serious situation. Always let somebody know where you are going and when you are due back.

A very pleasant trail mixing road trail and knobbly singletrack. I might have been quicker on my hardtail mtb but I had a lot of fun on my gravel bike especially as part of a loop of Kielder water. Will definitely ride this again when im in the area next.

I have tried this trail 3 times now. I can't get enough. It's superb. It lets you experience everything you could possibly want from a MTB trail. There are some completely unneeded black chippings on the trail. Caught my better half out and she crashed off, luckily not at speed. Hill 361 is there to test you. We break for lunch at the top and the downhill section from there on is amazing. It's great for amateurs and pros alike. It's a great ride.

Just spent a long weekend in Kielder and on day 2 I did the Osprey trail with my wife. It has a mix of everything from high up barron wilderness to deep dense forests, with steepish climbs and drops, to flowing singletrack through the forest. After doing the blue round Kielder the day before we were surprised how technical the Osprey was and found it great fun. We felt very lucky to see both a red squirrel and a deer on the trail.
