I agree with the comments about the state of the Chase.

I accept it is a commercial woodland but until recently that was balanced against open access and recreational use that has always been great as an accessible Cannock Chase.

Mechanical harvesting and thinning have left ruts and waterlogged areas, there are brash mats blocking wildlife paths and previously well used trails and large swathes of debris which will be a fire risk.

This is widespread including Tackeroo, Caitin memorial and around the German Cemetarywith road up to the penkridge road 12 inches deep in mud. All for wood to be chipped forhorsebedding?

There needs to be some management of the contractors toimprovehousekeeping and complete the necessaryremedi work.

The Charter for the FC was about preserving and enhancing the forest environment - not using John Deere and Timberjack equipment in an unmanaged way to make a mess of the Chase and damage the environ.ent while creating a safety hazard.

The old district foresters would less commercial but a lot more sensitive and sympathetic to The public accessing the Chase

Thank you for your feedback. Forest Operations are planned out in our Forest Design Plans which are published on our website they include details of when areas will be thinned, felled and re-planted as part of our sustainable management of the forest. The timber we produce is used for a variety of products including housing materials, fencing material and furniture. All Harvesting operations are carefully planned with our land management, wildlife and recreation teams to ensure they cause minimum impact, including selecting routes which have the less impact on formal facilities. After Harvesting operations all formal trails and facilities are re-instated. Brash will be left in the forest as this plays an important part of the Forest ecosystem. If you have any specific concerns about our contractors, please let us know by emailing info-cannock@forestry.gsi.gov.uk and we can follow this up further.

Why are trees being logged in the chase4

Tony John marshall, 1/May/2018

As part of our sustainable management of forests, we fell trees which enter the UK timber industry to produce a variety of products including housing materials, fencing material and furniture. Forest Operations are planned out in our Forest Design Plans which are published on our website, they include details of when areas will be thinned, felled and re-planted as part of our sustainable management of the forest.
