Certification and buying sustainable products

Forestry Commission woodlands have proudly carried the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) “stamp of approval” since November 1999 and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC™) scheme since February 2010. This makes us the largest supplier of FSC/PEFC certified timber in the UK.

What this means to us…

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certification for sustainable forest management means that our forests supply responsibly produced wood, Christmas trees and venison. The management of all the land in our care is done in such a way as to maintain biodiversity and natural ecological processes, as well being socially and economically beneficial.

What this means to you…

Looking out for the FSC or PEFC logo allows you to make a decision on the products that you buy and be confident that they are sustainable.

WWF recommends that you choose wood products with the FSC or PEFC logos on. By looking out for the logo you can do your bit to buy what you need without damaging woodlands and forests.

Combating a changing climate

By choosing wood products you are also helping to lock away carbon that helps reduce the impact of greenhouse gasses on the world’s climate.
