Explore Bourne Wood
(Average user rating: 3 unrated 3/5)

A promontary above a large heathland clearing offers an impressive view over the surrounding pine forests.

There are also other attractive areas of heathland, interspersed with silver birch and pine trees creating a more mature heathland habitat.

The sandy soil provides a good walking surface, allowing access to many of the tracks and public footpaths throughout the year.

The Bourne Wood is strategically important to the UK film industry as a filming location. Since 1999 numerous films, commercials, television programmes and music videos have been filmed here.

Filming activity at Bourne Wood is important to the local economy and to the Forestry Commission, as it makes a significant contribution towards the cost of managing the Public Forest Estate.

The Forestry Commission's recent application for planning permission, relating to change of use from 'Forestry' to Forestry and Filming' has been approved.

There is a dog waste bin at the Old Farnham Road side enterance, but why nothing at the larger car park on Tilford Road?

Anonymous, 21/Oct/2017

Thank you for your comment. The car park on Old Farnham Road is not owned or operated by the Forestry Commission. However the Forestry Commission do own the car park on Tilford Road . As this is the only free car park in the area we understand that it gets considerable use by dog walkers, but unfortunately means we do not have the resource to install and service dog bins in this carpark. We do ask dog owners be responsible and follow our Forest dog walking code.

Forestry Commission Response

visited today and concerned about the cattle grazing on the rspb area, they didnt appear to have any grazing, do they get extra feed??

Thank you taking the time to send in your comment. As the cattle are grazing on the RSPB site you will need to make contact with them. Their phone number is 01252 795632

Forestry Commission Response

Too many "professional" dog walkers who do not clean up their mess. I regularly see two female walkers with 7 dogs and not a poo bag between them. I have witnessed them failing to pick up despite the information signs.
