Sheila Ward first worked for the Forestry Commission from 1997-1999 as Assistant Statistician, on loan from the Scottish Government.  She returned as Statistician in 2002 and became the Forestry Commission’s Lead Statistician in 2011.  The Statistics Team moved from Corporate and Forestry Support into Inventory, Forecasting and Operational Support (IFOS) and into Forest Research in April 2016.

Current role

Statistician, Inventory, Forecasting and Operational Support

To contribute to policy development, monitoring and evaluation of sustainable forest management by providing statistical information, analysis and advice.  Lead statistical support to the FC Expert Group on Timber & Trade Statistics (EGTTS).

Current projects

Management of Statistics Team within IFOS, responsible for:

  • Collection of data and release of UK Official Statistics on forestry
  • Provision of UK data to international organisations and liaison with international groups on forestry statistics
  • Forestry Commission compliance with Code of Practice for Official Statistics
  • Provision of statistical services (advice, support & analysis).
