BSc, MSc
Head of Surveys and Measurement
Mark manages the field work element of the NFI. There are usually about 25 contract staff as well as internal FR QA staff working on the field data collection.
The work also includes writing field data collection protocols to answer the many questions posed by the NFI objectives and training staff to carry out the protocols correctly.
During his early years with Forest Research Mark worked on the European COST 43 project looking at harmonising national forest inventories across Europe.
Mark has worked in the Government, Private and Sectors in mainly forestry surveying roles. He has worked overseas in Malawi and Guyana on a number of surveying projects and was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire before moving to Forest Research in 2005 to work on the National Forest inventory of Great Britain (NFI).
