Rob joined Forest Research in early 2016 after completing a double MSc degree on the SUFONAMA (Sustainable Forest and Nature Management) scholarship programme at Copenhagen and Goettingen universities. During his thesis Rob focused on the climate growth relationship of beech trees in a virgin forest in Slovakia using dendrochronological techniques.

Current role

Silviculturist, Forest Management Science Group

Providing scientific support for projects in the Forest Management Science Group.

Rob formally worked for the Technical Services Unit of Forest Research and so has significant experience in laying out and assessing field experiments, use of forest measurement tools, forest management operations, tree health assessments and soil surveying.

His other specialist area is dendrochronological analysis and he has carried out various studies including establishing tree growth decline due to disease from quarantined basal disk samples.
